National Coalition Against Censorship

The National Coalition Against Censorship (NCAC), founded in 1974, is an alliance of 50 American non-profit organizations, including literary, artistic, religious, educational, professional, labor, and civil liberties groups. United by a conviction that freedom of thought, inquiry, and expression must be defended, they work to educate their members and the public at large about the dangers of censorship and how to oppose them. If someone needs help trying to speak out against censorship the NCAC will aid their efforts. They assist community groups and individuals with strategies and resources for resisting censorship and creating a climate hospitable to free expression. Their main goal is to defend the first amendment which is freedom of thought, inquiry, and expression. 〔Udow, R. (1988). You Can Combat censorship. Educational Leadership,(8), 14.〕 Their website contains reports of censorship incidents, analysis and discussion of free expression issues, a database of legal cases in the arts, an archive of NCAC's quarterly newsletter, among other things.
==Focus==
The organization does not, however, focus only on books. The NCAC is concerned with censorship in all formats including art, literature, and film. They also include all different ages and citizens in their quest to eliminate censorship. The coalition works with artists and curators in their Arts Advocacy Project, they address the young in the Youth Free Expression Project, defend researchers with their The Knowledge Project: Censorship and Sciences, and addresses the rights of people of all sexual orientations with their project titled Sex and Censorship.〔National Coalition Against Censorship.(2014).Projects.
